We weren't at all sure how the cinema nights would be recieved in Arnside. We put alot of effort into promoting the first film night, helped and encouraged by Anthony from Community Cinemas, to whom it seems nothing is too much trouble. We had such a positive response and we were delighted when it was a virtual sell out.
Word has got out, like you'd expect in a village. Now people look for the posters going up and book as soon as they see them. Consequently each of the five films we've shown have sold out easily, the last one weeks in advance. We have shown children's films where the youth group have handled all the front of house to great praise from the adults, and with guidance from Anthony when needed, aim to choose films to appeal to all sections of the community. The organisation of the cinema nights has become easier each time. We haven't put the posters up for the next film yet and we've sold 80 tickets. We even have some regulars who have turned it into a real social occasion. They bring their own glasses and a bottle of wine! |

"The reception of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by the children was wonderful to behold – the response was even more thrilling than the ‘Robots’ experience. (This time we avoided the popcorn with maple syrup!). We now await the visitation of Community Cinemas in January and March for the productions of the latest ‘Wallace and Grommit’ and ‘Narnia’ films respectively."
